Reiki, pronounced ray-key, is the Japanese word for "universal life energy". Ki is the vital force of energy. It is also known as Chi in China, Prauna in India, and Ruach in Hebrew just to name a few. Reiki is an ancient healing technique that works to harmonize, or bring into balance, the total you: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras and meridians and around us in a field called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
This life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts and feelings disrupt the flow of life force energy by attaching to our energy fields, creating blocks. Many times we are not even conscious of this negative energy that has attached to us. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body and is the root cause of many diseases.
Reiki heals by passing universal energy through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body. This causes the energy blocks to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
How one experiences Reiki energy is highly personal. Most will feel a high degree of warmth from the practitioner’s hands, much beyond normal body heat. Some people feel a tingling sensation, while most people however become very relaxed, and can feel the tension and stresses of the day melt away.
Reiki induces states of relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well-being. Some people may notice a drastic change after one reiki treatment, for other problems it may take several treatments to heal the source of disease. Reiki is non evasive, and although classified as a “hands on” technique, no physical contact is necessary.
Reiki can be used to relieve symptoms of asthma, allergies, arthritis, back problems, and migraine, to promote healing, relieve fear and stress, lower blood pressure, and energize depressed patients and those with symptoms of fatigue.
Reiki can also be beneficial in releasing emotional blockages that prevent the healthy flow of universal life force energy throughout body, mind and aura.
Reiki is not a religion, but can be a powerful tool to supercharge your spiritual practice.
